Autobiography: Part Two
In high school, I developed a commitment to social justice causes on an international level. I became familiar with the crises in Darfur, Sudan and Uganda and learning about the western world’s role in these human rights injustices became a top priority for me. This passion of mine gave me an entryway in to global perspectives, theories and ideas. I learned to organize my peers and my school...

Autobiography: Part One
We were sitting impatiently in the car, uncomfortably waiting to cross the bridge back into the United States. I was fifteen years old and was quite used to the long wait at the U.S.-Mexico border. My family had traveled to Mexico time and time again for quinceneras, birthday parties, and sometimes funerals. This time on our way home it was after my abuelita’s funeral. My mother was heartbroken...

Autobiography
For my application to Sarah Lawrence, I have to write a 500-1000 word autobiography, which I shall post in parts. I’m not sure if I can write about my jesus-loving hippy days along with my “Save Africa,” (oh how wrong that was) and the western world can help ways all in one short essay.
That word count doesn’t leave room for my gayness, my amazing mother, or feminism.
lastdaysofandrewjara asked: oh man, you're in el paso too. I was listening to 104.3 and they were also talking about the chris brown thing and they were saying that this girl looked dumb cause she didn't like chris brown, saying even rhianna forgave him, so you look dumb that you don't... i had to turn it off cause it was making me so bad and they didn't know what they were saying.
chelsi-knits asked: Well, I believe that as a Christian, I am called to share the news of Christ with others. I share what He has done for me and how my life has changed since I became a Christian. No one can tell me I'm wrong in that. The people I share this with don't have to listen, nor do they have to believe it. But more often than not, the people are so grateful that we shared the gospel with them.
chelsi-knits asked: I'm not sure what you mean about them being "one-sided". I went to South Africa on a mission trip in 2010 and I fell in love with the people there. They are warm and friendly and so open to hearing what we have to share with them. But if what you're saying is about me traveling to Africa to "do good", that's not it at all. I have participated in several mission...
chelsi-knits asked: I read what you posted when you reblogged my post about South Africa. It kind of confused me and I didn't get what you were trying to say. I'm curious as to what you meant.

I hate to ask again... →
chelsi-knits:
I hate to ask again, but the first time I did, I had two kind people willing to help. Would any of you want to help sponsor me on my trip to South Africa in July? I’ll be there, spreading the Good News to the people group who captured my heart in June 2010. Prayer support would be awesome, but if…

Dear Local Radio,
We need to break up.
I’ve been really frustrated with the amount of insensitive, misogynistic, racist bullshit that El Paso morning radio hosts share on the air.
I don’t understand how an entire city can tune in to these stations and not be horrified by the level of ignorance babbled every morning.
I’m generally a K*HEY listener because it’s (usually) the most...
simplytoska asked: Hi, I saw that you're looking at SLC for its art of teaching program. I currently go to Sarah Lawrence (and I, too, am looking to apply to the graduate program), but we're a fairly accepting group of students. I don't think you'll find very many people here who will 'challenge' your identity. Especially not as a Queer Xicana Feminist. Mostly because a lot of the...

Spring Break
I booked my flight last night to New York City. I’m very excited because i’ll be visiting Sarah Lawrence, a school i’m seriously considering for their, “Art of Teaching,” graduate program.
I’m hoping it’s what i’m looking for because I really need a new experience, outside of my Southwest Cultural bubble. I feel entirely way too safe expressing my...

I'M GOING TO START
DOING MORE BLOGGING OF MY OWN AND A LOT LESS REBLOGGING. FOR THE MOST PART, IT WILL STILL BE ABOUT FEMINISM AND MY DAILY EXPERIENCES/OPINIONS.
EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE I’LL PROBABLY GUSH OVER RACHEL MADDOW, HOW I IDENTIFY AS GAY THESE DAYS, AND MAYBE A LITTLE ABOUT HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU.
BE PREPARED.

Who is grrrl/boicotting the Grammy's with us? →
Grammy producers confirmed that Chris Brown will be performing on Sunday’s show.
“We’re glad to have him back,” said executive producer Ken Ehrlich. “I think people deserve a second chance, you know. If you’ll note, he has not been on the Grammys for the past few years and it may have taken us a while to kind of get over the fact that we were the victim of what happened.”
